Film Projects

Minimize

Media Department

This department is headed up by Katie Taylor who has been previously employed by a film company in Hollywood USA.  She has a film school called Film School Africa.  You can find more information concerning the school on their website:  www.filmschoolafrica.org

Mission: Equipping students to work in the booming South Africa film industry—and in the process using film as a form of art therapy by providing students with an outlet for self-expression.  Harnessing the power of film to forever change lives.

Activities/Services:  We equip and empower students to visually construct their life story through the use of documentary and short films, instilling basic skill instruction regarding film-creation.  Once the course is up and running, students shoot and edit their projects throughout the week, making involvement in this course quite time consuming.  Commitment is crucial but students that immerse themselves find it very rewarding.

Schedule:  Level One and Level Two students gather each

Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from                   3:30pm-5:30pm.

How to access the program:   Students can sign up for an interview at Kuyasa in late January/early February to join Level One.  We hope to have a second Level One group start in July if there is enough student interest.  Level Two is by invitation only and you must successfully complete Level One to be considered.

Future Goals:    We strive to create a successful model, funnelling our most promising students into a film production company, enabling them to make money on community projects and in time move toward more advanced studio work.  We also hope to expand into other African countries once student leaders are mentally and spiritually prepared to become a Film School Africa instructor.
